Considerations:

Private schools are usually for-profit organizations and require a strong sense of commitment from their teaching staff. Teachers do much more than standing at the front of a classroom talking. Teachers as in any English Speaking Country have the responsibility to the progress and education of the learners they teach, and this includes assessment and administrative work.
EFL teachers are usually required by schools to use a range of course books plus a variety of ancillary materials; a communicative approach to teaching by using dialogue, role-playing, language games and literature are also used. Formal exercises and assessment will also be part of the curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on Attendance, Punctuality, Attire and Rigorous Ethics in general.
The content of lessons varies depending on the reason why the students are learning English, e.g. whether it’s general English for either adults or young learners, ESP for professionals, business English for adults, school work for children, and so on .
Typical tasks that are usually carried out include, but may not be limited to:
• evaluating students´ class work and assignments
• preparing classroom materials, homework assignments, and handouts
• recording and maintaining accurate student attendance records and grades
• classroom management
• planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes and age groups
• preparing and setting tests, examination papers, and exercises
• marking and providing appropriate feedback on oral and written work
• devising, writing and producing new materials, including audio and visual resources
• organizing and getting involved in social and cultural activities such as sports competitions, school parties, dinners and excursions
• attending and contributing to training sessions
• participating in marketing events for the language school
• preparing information for inspection visits and other quality assurance exercises
• advising students on career issues
• developing English lesson plans in line with the National Curriculum
• maintaining discipline in the classroom
• creating a vibrant teaching atmosphere
Under general school policy the following will most certainly be considered justified causes for immediate dismissal;
1. Become Romantically Involved with a Student: Highly unethical and also illegal depending on the students’ age. Steer clear of romantic relationships of any kind with anyone in your class, your school, or under the age of 22 just to play it safe.
2. Lie on Your Resume: To become an EFL teacher, you need A TEFL Certificate and in some countries other qualifications. Lying is cheating.
3. Job Hunt at Work: While you’re at work, focus on your students and school. If you are looking for a job, do it outside the school walls and off school equipment. Worse than that, your colleagues or students might find out about your job search and stop trusting you and question your level of commitment.
4. Gossip: The teachers lounge is not the place to air your dirty laundry. A student story you might find funny others could view as highly inappropriate and grounds to call you untrustworthy, unprofessional or unethical. Whatever you do, don’t gossip about a student’s abilities or another teacher’s skills.
5. Taking Personal Calls while Teaching: Limit phone calls in class to absolute necessities- like calling a parent for an emergency.
6. Excessive Use of Internet: Most schools prevent teachers from “free” surfing by blacklisting all non-school related websites. Schools see this as a good idea to keep teachers focused on school during school hours. If you need to do a little surfing at lunch, do it quick.
7. Harass other Staff Members: teaching really is a team sport. Don’t be overly negative or difficult with other faculty members. Administrators keep files on every faculty member, and you don’t want your file to be filled with grievances about the difficulty you have working with others.
8. Forgetting to Double-Check Your Grades: Grades are serious business for students, and sometimes even more so for parents. If you can’t back up your grades with hard evidence of recorded grades, you could be in big trouble.
9. Mixing Personal and Professional Life: It’s not a good idea to hang out at your students’ houses or become extremely social with parents. You might let your guard down and say things that only school staff should be privy to.
10. Inappropriate Behavior: Only common sense, but still worth mentioning. As in any other job there are the obvious: Below standard performance, drinking, tardiness, absenteeism, etc.
When requesting a teaching assignment, five preferred locations must be specified. These five locations must be in different regions, not same metro area and in mid-sized (100,000 +) to major cities.
